THE HIGH LINE

The High Line is located on Manhattan's West Side. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th and 11th avenues. Section 1 of the High Line, which opened to the public on June 9, 2009, runs from Gansevoort Street to West 20th Street. Section 2, between West 20th and West 30th Streets, opened June 8, 2011.

My first visit to the High Line was in July 2009. I was struck immediately by a sense of  quiet tranquility. It was an  immediate change from from the ever present city noise only 20 odd feet below us. It was a transformative experience. I was hooked and have returned many times. Because it is so new the changes occuring are contributing opportunities for artists to record historic change and produce compelling images. It is happening both on The High Line and in the surrounding Neighborhoods.

I love STREET photography but I have lived and have traveled to other cities so I have decided to include them together with the Big Apple.

I do not consider graffiti art; what I am interested in, is art that is being created on venues where artists have gained access by legal permission by whoever owns or controls the involved space, The art work that I have found and photographed speaks for itself. Specifically the SEATTLE Artist who signs his work HRNRY has enhanced the city.  In NEW YORK city, plywood construction fences are utilized by artists until the job is finished. I hope that this trend continues to expand

From the start of ny interest in photography I have asked myself what makes a successful image? Why are     opinions to particular works of art be so diverse? In my Gallery INTERIORS I shave tried to inject an air of MYSTERY. If the viewer stops and asks one question about the image I consider that image successful.

Growing up in Park Slope Brooklyn in the thirties and forties flowers and Plants were not displayed in such profusion as they are today.

The trees existed on blocks mainly above seventh Ave. There were hardly any trees growing below that line. I am not sure that it has any influence for my fascination for things growing.

Outdoors/ Just what it implies as long as the image is captured on the street or in a field...

WORLD TRADE CENTER

I  want to share some of the images of the World TradeCenter and pay homage to the impact on the lives that were lost on that tragic September morning as well as their families.

The images were made from 1976 to 2002. Looking at the towers early on I thought  that their domination of the cityscape was unsightly. Eventually, I started to warm up to these very large structures. Windows on the world be-came a family destination.

My wife Paula and I were living on our yacht Carrillon berthed in a slip directly across the river from the twin Towers. Paula had returned to Brooklyn the night before. The phone rang as I was preparing breakfast. My  boat neighbor asked if  I was aware of what was happening,Since I am unable to see the river from the galley,I ran to the stern facing the towers. Initially thought that a small plane blundered and crashed into the north tower. Within minutes, I saw a large black obJect approaching the other tower. Before I could process what I was seeing, this missile entered the south tower and a huge fireball exploded out the other side.

My brain went on automatic mode. I realized that i was crying. I had two cameras loaded wih film. I started shootingand did not stop until all the film was exposed. The rest of the day were filled with terrible moments

THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE

Most New Yorkers are extremely aware of the BRIDGE and its impact on the City from its inception, At the time of its completion it was the tallest and most visible structure in the city. I had the good fortune to pass beneath it trips up and down the East River.

A broad term. I use it instead of Landscapes to broaden the possibilities.

                              ANTIQUE AUTO

I have a habit pf tuning a passing interest into an obsession.  Antique Autos fell into this category. The subjects always present themselves as sculptures and works of Art. The same can be said for Motorcycles.
